Zakynthos is an island of contrasts with a massive rocky moutainside and a fertile valley, golden beaches and steep cliffs, picturesque traditional villages and a modern capital with many shops ... all in all ... Zakynthos offers something for everyone. The generous winter rains favour the growth of thick vegetation and assure a remarkable water reserve. That is why the island is very green, even in the hot and dry summer months. The touristic season starts early May and ends on the last days of October. By plane, ferry or car, many people of all nationalities visit our beautiful island. Along the rocky, western coasts the monkseal Monachus Monachus breed. Just like the giant seaturtle Caretta Caretta, they are an endangered species. Measures have been taken by the Greek government to protect their habitat. In the last years the island has undergone a progressive development to offer both residents as well as guests a modern infrastructure without loosing its traditional aspect. The Zakynthians are kind and hospitable people. Just rent a car or motorbike and discover the small villages on the island. You will find open arms and a warm smile on your way. |
